It’s busy — and it’s only going to get busier.
Complete Streets improvements are coming to Central New Orleans, soon to bring more safety and less stress to our streets. As the City builds protected bike lanes, curb islands, pedestrian crossings and more improvements on Elysian Fields in the Marigny, they are also hosting community design meetings for more improvements, including one TONIGHT for downriver neighborhoods.
At 6pm on Tuesday November 17th, City officials will speak at the Moving New Orleans Bikes community design meeting for the 7th Ward, Gentilly, St. Roch, and Bayou St. Log on to see designs and construction schedules for the protected bikeways and bike boulevards coming soon to these neighborhoods.
Another area that will soon receive complete streets improvements is Central City and the Lower Garden District. These improvements include a parking protected bike lane on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard that will make the road safer and less stressful for everyone, people walking, biking, driving and riding transit.
The City is hosting a pre-construction meeting this Thursday 11/19 at 6pm to present their updated plans for complete streets in the area, that include input from the community design meeting held over the summer. We’re excited to see how City officials incorporated ideas and suggestions from the people who use these streets most.
It’s a busy week and a busy time, but the work we put in now will result in more safety and less stress on our streets in the near future.
