Another Reason to Ride the New Bikeways: The Bike Easy April Challenge

With more safety and less stress coming to our streets, there’s also new ways to enjoy the benefits of Complete Streets.

For five years, the Bike Easy April Challenge has brought the biking community together, and encouraged more people to get out and ride through friendly competition and fun prize giveaways. But this is the first year that people can earn points by riding on New Orleans’ newest protected bikeways!

The Bike Easy April Challenge has always been fun, but with brand new protected bikeways getting built across New Orleans, there’s even more opportunity to get out, ride, and earn points, safely and with less stress.

As someone who cares about street safety and accessibility infrastructure, we figured you’d want to take advantage of this opportunity by registering for the Bike Easy April Challenge here.

Having trouble deciding which of the newest protected bikeways to ride on for the challenge? Here’s a few of our favorites:

Elysian Fields

Bordering the French Quarter and the Marigny, the protected bike lanes along Elysian Fields are not only a joy to ride but also a great connector to many fun and beautiful destinations. Whether you want to ride along the River at Crescent City Park, or pick up a beignet at Cafe Du Monde, the protected Elysian Fields bikeway will take you to your destination safely and without stress.

Wall Boulevard

In Algiers, one of our favorite bikeways is on Wall Boulevard. The path is on the neutral ground, so you can ride freely through the trees on your way to Behrman Memorial Park, or towards the Mississippi River Trail for a beautiful, leisurely ride. Algiers has plenty of other newly built protected bikeways to check out as well.

What if you tried riding all of them to earn plenty of points?

Lafitte Greenway

No list of bikeways in New Orleans is complete without mentioning the Lafitte Greenway. Stretching from Mid-City all the way to the Treme, riding the Greenway is a great way to explore New Orleans. Plus, there’s plenty of great coffee shops you can stop at along the way.

But, before you start earning points by riding some of New Orleans’ best bikeways, make sure to register for the Bike Easy April Challenge today!

We’ll see you out there, and look forward to even more protected bikeways that we’ll be able to ride for the challenge next year.
